England are World Cup of Darts champions for a record sixth time, and if Sunday night in Frankfurt is anything to go by, the two Lukes are only just getting started.

Luke Littler and Luke Humphries produced the performance of the tournament when it mattered most, dismantling a formidable Netherlands pair of Michael van Gerwen and Gian van Veen 10-5 in a final that showcased English darts at its very finest.

The victory at the Eissporthalle in Frankfurt was emphatic, authoritative, and at times breathtaking, exactly the kind of display that reminds you why these two players are ranked one and two in the world.

The Final: England Turn It On

Netherlands had the darts to open and van Gerwen, never a man to waste an opportunity, made his mark early. A clinical 113 outshot from The Green Machine gave the Dutch a 2-1 lead and briefly threatened to turn the final into the dogfight many had predicted. But what followed was a masterclass.

Littler and Humphries responded by winning four consecutive legs, turning a deficit into a commanding 5-2 lead. Their pair average of over 110 during that spell was the kind of scoring that leaves opponents with nowhere to hide. Van Gerwen and Van Veen are two of the finest players on the plane, but England were simply relentless.

The Netherlands never truly recovered. England continued to pile on the pressure with some of the most consistent pairs darts seen all week, and it was Humphries who delivered the finishing touch, a composed double eight that sealed the 10-5 victory and triggered scenes of genuine joy on the Frankfurt stage.

England’s pair average across the final was a staggering 104.77, the highest ever recorded in a World Cup of Darts final. That statistic alone tells you everything you need to know about the level of performance produced by the world’s top two.

The Road to Glory

The victory was made all the sweeter by the quality of opponents England had to overcome to get there. Their route through the tournament was anything but straightforward, at least at times.

A second-round win over Wales set up a quarter-final encounter that provided one of the moments of the week.

With England’s campaign wobbling, Littler produced a stunning 170 checkout to rescue England and keep their title hopes alive. It was the kind of moment that only the very best players produce under the most intense pressure.

The semi-final brought Scotland, Gary Anderson and Cameron Menzies, into England’s path. Anderson is a two-time world champion and a genuine legend of the sport, but Littler and Humphries were merciless, hammering Scotland 8-3 in a performance that sent a clear message to the rest of the field.

A Historic Sixth Title

This victory extends England’s record as the most successful nation in World Cup of Darts history.

Six titles now stand to England’s name, more than any other country, and this one feels particularly significant. It is the first time Littler and Humphries have lifted the trophy together as a pair, and it came at the first final between the top two seeds since 2020.

For Humphries, it is a second World Cup triumph after his 2024 success alongside Michael Smith. For Littler, it is yet another title in what is becoming a truly extraordinary 2026.

The teenage sensation has won every major title on offer this year, and his World Cup triumph in Frankfurt means the clean sweep remains alive.

“I’m absolutely delighted,” said Littler after the final. “That’s the best we’ve played all tournament and that’s what we needed to do. Obviously I’ve won every big title so far this year, but I couldn’t have done it without Luke. He’s been brilliant. Me and Luke know we can win.”

England Win 2026 World Cup of Darts: What Next?

The partnership of Littler and Humphries is shaping up to be one of the most formidable in World Cup history. They are, right now, the two best players in the world, and when they play together with this level of cohesion and mutual trust, they are close to unbeatable.

The World Cup of Darts is a unique event. It strips away the individual nature of darts and asks players to perform as a unit, alternating singles and combining in pairs.

The ability to lift a partner when they’re struggling, to close out legs under pressure, and to maintain a collective average above 100 throughout a final is extraordinarily difficult. England made it look easy.
